TITLE: Electrical Engineer Level 2 Department: 40 – Engineering
Classification: Salaried, E Reports to: Director or VP of Engineering

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform electrical design of smart batteries and chargers with moderate to minimal supervision from Management
  • Create schematics, BOM’s, and supporting documentation
  • Direct PCB layout using outside resources
  • Establish Product Specifications
  • Participate in project teams and all activities related to the development of new products
  • Perform Design Reviews
  • Where applicable, perform circuit analysis using computer models
  • Perform and/or direct testing to verify performance to product specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Formulates increasingly creative solutions to Engineering problems
  • Brings increased resourcefulness to team projects, including anticipating possible conflicting demands, meeting project deadlines and improving manufacturing methods.
  • Adhere to project schedules and cost targets
  • Possesses an increased ability to catch quality issues and provide solutions to those issues identified
  • Assist, as needed, in technical support of some existing electronic products currently in production.
  • Familiarity with regulatory certification requirements and procedures including UL and CE, preferred
  • Strong personal discipline, strong verbal and written communication skills and good documentation skills
  • Interface with customers as needed during design reviews, quality audits and the like 

Education and Experience: 

  • This position requires a BSEE degree and minimum 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • Experience with analog and power management circuits
  • Must possess strong analytical, as well as empirical skills in math, physics and electronics
  • Knowledge of PCs and applications software, including spreadsheets, word processors, and draw programs in a windows-based environment is mandatory
  • Must be able to communicate in a fast paced multi-disciplined environment
  • Formulates increasingly creative solutions to Engineering problems
  • Demonstrates a broad perspective and brings increased resourcefulness to team projects, including anticipating possible conflicting demands, meeting project deadlines and improving manufacturing methods 

Physical Demands: 

  • Typical physical effort includes frequent lifting or moving of light to moderately weighted materials
  • The use of fine motor skills in the hands to examine, repair, disassemble and reassemble products
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time in meetings or at workstation
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach 

Work Environment:

  • Work performed in an Engineering R&D environment
  • Work is primarily done at one workstation, but may require shifting to other work stations as needs require
  • May require travel to customer sites
  • Frequently required to attend project meetings
TITLE: Electronics Tech w/ Basic Machine Shop Skills Department: 40 – Engineering
Classification: Hourly, Non Exempt Reports to:  Director or VP of Engineering

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build electrical breadboards or prototypes
  • With mechanical drawings and wiring schematic as reference, assemble and wire test fixtures.
  • Under the supervisor of engineers participates in the design of new products, which may include:
    • Prototype assembly and troubleshooting
    • Design Verification testing of new product samples
    • Collection of test data for new products
    • Building of specialty jigs or fixtures, as needed for product development and test
  • Operate all engineering test equipment and instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic load, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot product which fails production tests or is indicated as defective by customer .
  • Operate basic machine shop equipment to fabricate parts for production test fixtures, manufacturing aids, etc,
  • With training, operate our Arbin automated battery cycling equipment
  • Facilitate design, construction, documentation, and validation of new test fixtures, including:
    • Participate in fixture design with Engineering assistance and supervision
    • Generate and maintain project schedule for fixture development
    • Order parts as needed for new fixtures
    • Coordinate resources for fixture documentation, construction, programming, debug, calibration, validation, and introduction to the Production Department
  • Maintain Engineering Lab in an orderly fashion.
  • Responsible for maintenance and calibration of Lab equipment and keeping log of same.
  • Promptly reports to supervisor and takes appropriate actions to correct problems, including fixture design or operation, development schedule, calibration, etc.

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced training in electronic theory such as one would receive at a technical trade school or in an Associate degree program
  • At least 2 years experience testing and troubleshooting electronic circuitry down to the component level
  • Experience working in all functional areas of the test department
  • Experience with basic machine shop tools and practices
  • Pass SMT solder inspection
